Paternity Disputes

Paternity is the process whereby the court determines the identity of a biological father, in those situations where the child's mother and father were not married. If paternity is at issue, the court will seek to establish whether or not the man in question is the father before it will award child custody, visitation, child support, or any other parental right. Paternity is typically established through DNA testing, but the court can also establish paternity through a blood test.

At Mindi Lasley, P.A., we represent both fathers and mothers in paternity disputes. We will file a petition to establish paternity in order to force a parent to pay back child support or to obtain parental rights, including custody and visitation. However, we are equally capable of defending our clients against paternity actions by filing a petition for the disestablishment of paternity.
